ACiQ EL01 Error Code

Indoor and outdoor unit communication error

What does ACiQ EL01 mean?

EL01 means the indoor unit can no longer communicate with the outdoor unit. The ACiQ control boards exchange a signal over the communication line, and when that signal is lost or stuck, the system flags EL01 and stops. On current-loop (S) systems the DC voltage between the N/L2 and S terminals should swing alternately positive and negative; a fixed value indicates the fault.

Symptoms

  • EL01 shown on the indoor unit display
  • System stops running or will not start
  • DC voltage between N/L2 and S terminals reads a fixed value instead of alternating
  • No coordinated operation between indoor and outdoor units

Common causes

  • Loose, damaged, or miswired communication wiring between indoor and outdoor units
  • Electrical interference on the signal line (long runs, nearby transformers or lamps)
  • Signal wire not seated properly on the PCB or broken
  • Faulty indoor main PCB
  • Faulty outdoor main PCB or reactor

Diagnostic steps

  1. Power cycle the system

Turn the unit off, wait about two minutes, then restart and check whether the EL01 code clears.

  2. Inspect the communication wiring

Check the wiring connections between the indoor and outdoor units. Correct any loose or wrong connections, or replace damaged wires.

  3. Measure the communication voltage

Measure the DC voltage between the N/L2 and S terminals. A value alternating positive to negative is normal; a fixed value points to a board fault.

  4. Reduce interference on 485 systems

On S1/S2 systems, remove nearby interference sources or add a magnet ring, use shielded earthed cable, and reseat or replace the signal wire if broken.

  5. Replace the faulty board

If wiring is good, replace the indoor main PCB and recheck; if the fault remains, replace the outdoor main PCB.

When to call a professional

Diagnosing EL01 requires measuring DC voltages on live communication terminals and replacing control boards while electricity can remain stored in capacitors after power-off. Contact a licensed HVAC technician if power-cycling and a visual wiring check do not clear the code, or if any board, reactor, or signal-wire replacement is needed. Voltage measurement and PCB work on these inverter systems should only be done by a qualified service professional.
