What does Danfoss AH mean?

On the Danfoss AK-RC 204B/205C walk-in controller, AH is the maximum-temperature alarm: the temperature value programmed in parameter A1 has been reached on the control probe. It warns that the cold room or freezer has warmed to the configured high limit, so the appliance is not holding temperature. The acoustic alarm and alarm relay activate according to the controller's message settings.

Symptoms

  • Display shows the AH alarm.
  • Control-probe temperature has reached the A1 high limit.
  • Acoustic alarm and/or alarm relay activate.
  • Stored product is at risk of warming if the condition persists.

Common causes

  • Excessive load, warm product, or doors opened frequently.
  • Dirty or blocked condenser reducing cooling capacity.
  • Refrigeration-system fault such as low charge or compressor problem.
  • A1 high-limit set too tight, or alarm delays (A3/A4/A5) too short for the cycle.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Read the alarm

Confirm AH and compare the control-probe temperature with the A1 limit.

  2. Check operational causes

Verify doors are closed, the load is normal, and the unit is not just out of a defrost or start-up delay.

  3. Inspect the condenser and cooling

Clean the condenser and clear airflow obstructions that would reduce capacity.

  4. Verify recovery

Allow the temperature to fall below A1 and confirm AH clears; if it does not, investigate the refrigeration system.

When to call a professional

If AH persists after checking doors, load, and the condenser, the refrigeration system needs professional attention. A technician should verify the charge, compressor, and controls because a sustained high-temperature alarm in a walk-in threatens food safety and large product losses. Refrigerant diagnosis and recharging require certification, so system repairs should not be attempted by untrained staff.
