Elitech E2 Error Code

Evaporator sensor fault

Source: Elitech ECS-974NEO User Manual.pdf

What does Elitech E2 mean?

E2 indicates the evaporator temperature sensor has failed. The Elitech manual lists E2 as evaporator sensor fault and shows it when the evaporator probe fails. The evaporator sensor governs defrost termination and fan operation, so when it is faulty the controller can no longer use evaporator temperature to start, stop or control these functions and falls back to the configured logic.

Symptoms

  • Display shows E2
  • Fan no longer runs based on evaporator temperature
  • Defrost timing behaves differently because evaporator temperature is unavailable
  • Evaporator temperature reading is missing when viewed

Common causes

  • Open-circuit evaporator probe or its lead
  • Short-circuit evaporator sensor
  • Loose or incorrect wiring at the evaporator sensor terminals
  • Evaporator probe disabled or disconnected (H42 set to n)

Diagnostic steps

  1. Confirm E2 on the display

Check that the panel shows E2, which the manual defines as evaporator sensor fault.

  2. Check whether the evaporator sensor is enabled

Confirm parameter H42 is set to y if an evaporator probe should be present; the manual notes the evaporator sensor can be enabled or disabled.

  3. Inspect the evaporator probe and wiring

With power off, examine the evaporator sensor lead and terminals for breaks, shorts or loose connections, keeping sensor, power and relay leads separated as the manual requires.

  4. Replace a failed probe

Fit a correct NTC evaporator sensor, removing the old one by plugging its end out downwards as the manual instructs.

  5. Power up and verify

Restore power; once a valid evaporator reading returns, E2 clears and fan and defrost control resume normal operation.

When to call a professional

Bring in a technician if E2 remains after checking the probe, wiring and the H42 enable setting, or if you cannot safely access the evaporator sensor inside the coil area. A persistently faulty evaporator sensor disturbs defrost termination and fan control, which can lead to coil icing or poor cooling, so professional repair protects both the equipment and the stored product.
