Randell E0 Error Code

Control probe alarm on the Carel controller (air/control temperature sensor)

Source: Randell/8148n-290-pcb__rd-8000-290-9000w-290-spm.pdf

What does Randell E0 mean?

On a Randell prep table fitted with the Carel controller, E0 is the control-probe alarm. The control probe is the temperature sensor the controller uses to regulate the cabinet, and E0 indicates that sensor has failed, gone out of range, or lost its connection so the controller can no longer read the air temperature it needs to manage cooling.

Symptoms

  • Display shows E0 and the alarm LED is lit
  • Cabinet or rail temperature is not being held correctly
  • Compressor may run continuously or not cycle normally
  • Temperature reading on the display is missing or erratic

Common causes

  • Failed or out-of-range control probe (temperature sensor)
  • Disconnected or loose probe connector at the controller
  • Damaged or pinched probe wiring
  • Controller input fault

Diagnostic steps

  1. Confirm the alarm code

Check the Carel display for E0 and the lit alarm LED to confirm it is the control-probe alarm and not another code.

  2. Disconnect power before inspecting

Before any inspection or repair, ensure the unit is disconnected from its power source as the manual directs.

  3. Inspect the probe connection

Check that the control probe is connected at the controller and that its wiring is not pinched, damaged, or loose.

  4. Verify the cabinet temperature

Compare the displayed temperature against the set point to see whether the unit is still holding food-safe temperature while the alarm is active.

  5. Contact authorized service

If the probe is faulty, contact a Randell Authorized Service Agent at 888-994-7636 to test or replace the Carel air sensor.

When to call a professional

Probe replacement and controller diagnosis on an R290 prep table should be handled by a Randell Authorized Service Agent. The manual requires that service work be performed by factory-authorized personnel using OEM parts to minimize the risk of ignition from the flammable refrigerant. If E0 persists after checking the connection, or the cabinet is not holding temperature, call service at 888-994-7636.
