Irinox A28 Error Code
Open door alarm during cooling or heating cycle (automatic reset) – MULTIFRESH NEXT
Source: Irinox_MULTI_FRESH_NEXT_S_None_ServiceManual_RF_EN_part02.pdf
What does Irinox A28 mean?
Alarm A28 means the MULTIFRESH NEXT control board has detected an open-door condition while a cooling or heating cycle is running. The board reads the state of door micro switch SQ1 via M15 terminal block poles 3–4; if that circuit signals the door is open during an active cycle, A28 is raised. The alarm resets automatically once the board detects a valid closed-door signal.
Symptoms
- A28 appears on the display while a blast-chill or heating cycle is running
- Alarm clears automatically when the door is confirmed closed
- Cold air or warm air may escape the cabinet, causing slower-than-expected temperature pull-down
- Alarm may trigger even with the door visibly closed if SQ1 or its wiring is faulty
- Intermittent A28 events that correlate with vibration suggest a loose connection at M15
Common causes
- Door is physically open or not fully latched during a cooling or heating cycle
- SQ1 door micro switch is faulty with an open contact when the door is closed
- Cable of SQ1 door micro switch is faulty, damaged, or broken
- Precarious or loose connection of SQ1 wiring at M15 terminal block poles 3–4
- Oxidation or corrosion on M15 terminal block poles 3–4
- PU power board digital input for the SQ1 door signal is faulty

Diagnostic steps
Verify the door is fully closed and latched
Physically inspect the door seal, hinges, and latch mechanism for debris, damage, or misalignment. Ensure the door closes flush and the latch engages positively; adjust hinges if necessary.
Test SQ1 micro switch operation
With the door closed, use a multimeter in continuity mode across the SQ1 switch terminals to confirm the contact closes correctly. Actuate the switch manually to verify it snaps cleanly between open and closed states.
Inspect M15 terminal block poles 3–4
Power down the unit, open the electrical panel, and check M15 poles 3–4 for loose wires, oxidation, or corrosion. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and re-torque the terminations.
Inspect and test the SQ1 wiring harness
Trace the cable from SQ1 to M15 poles 3–4, checking for cuts, pinching by the door hinge, or heat damage. Repair or replace damaged cable sections and re-test switch continuity end-to-end.
Replace SQ1 micro switch if defective
Fit a genuine Irinox replacement SQ1 door micro switch, adjust its actuator position so it registers correctly when the door is fully closed, and reconnect firmly at M15 poles 3–4.
Confirm alarm resolution with a live cycle
Restore power, reset A28, and run a cooling cycle with the door properly closed. Confirm A28 does not recur and the door-open signal reads correctly on the controller diagnostics.
When to call a professional
If A28 persists after replacing SQ1 and confirming clean, secure connections at M15 poles 3–4, the PU power board digital input is likely defective. Additionally, if door hinge adjustment or seal replacement is required and you are unfamiliar with MULTIFRESH NEXT door alignment procedures, contact an Irinox-authorised technician to avoid compromising the cabinet seal and cycle performance.
