What does Manitowoc E27 mean?

E27 indicates a fault with the bin level high probe sensor — the uppermost probe in the multi-level bin detection system. The high probe triggers the final bin-full signal that stops ice production. A fault on the high probe is operationally critical: a failed probe stuck in the 'absent' state allows the machine to overfill and jam the bin; a probe stuck in the 'present' state stops production with the bin still mostly empty.

Symptoms

• Machine shuts down with E27 in the event log.
• Machine stops producing ice even though the bin is not full.
• Machine overfills the bin because high probe does not detect full condition.
• High bin probe LED on the control board is inactive or always active.

Common causes

• Mineral scale on the high probe rod disrupting conductivity sensing.
• High probe connector loose or corroded at the control board.
• Damaged wiring harness between the high probe and the control board.
• Probe physically bent, cracked, or shifted from its correct position.
• Control board high probe input circuit failure.

Diagnostic steps

   Clean the high bin probe

   Remove the high bin probe and clean the sensing rod with Manitowoc-approved cleaner and a soft cloth. Scale on the rod surface is the primary cause of conductivity-based probe faults.

   Inspect connector and wiring

   Power off and check the high probe connector at the control board for loose pins or corrosion. Trace the wiring from the board to the probe for damage or chafing.

   Verify probe mounting position

   Confirm the high probe is installed at the correct height in the bin per the installation manual. An improperly positioned probe trips at the wrong fill level.

   Test probe continuity

   Disconnect the probe and measure continuity from the tip to the connector with a multimeter. An open measurement confirms a broken probe — replace the assembly.

5. 05

   Replace the high bin probe

   If cleaning and wiring checks do not resolve E27, replace the high bin probe assembly with the Manitowoc-specified part for the model.

When to call a professional

If probe replacement does not resolve E27 and wiring tests clean, the control board high probe input circuit is faulty. A factory-trained technician is required to confirm and replace the control board.
