What does Ruud P1 mean?
On Ruud RUTGH condensing tankless water heaters, code P1 is a maintenance reminder that the neutralizer needs to be replaced soon. The neutralizer treats the unit's acidic condensate before it drains; P1 warns that its service life is nearing its end. Per the manual, the unit can still be used for a while, but the neutralizer should be replaced.

When to call a professional
P1 is an advisory to schedule neutralizer replacement with a dealer or qualified service technician before it becomes a hard lockout. The manual notes the unit can be used for a while but the neutralizer must be replaced. Because condensate is acidic and must be handled per local codes, and the work involves the sealed condensate system, leave the replacement to a qualified professional.
