What does Ako E16 mean?

E16 indicates that the evaporator configuration has been changed between one evaporator and two evaporators (or vice versa) in the controller parameters. When the number of evaporators changes, the controller requires re-commissioning of its SELFDRIVE calibration data and probe assignments. E16 alerts the technician that the configuration change has been detected and that a fresh SELFDRIVE calibration is needed before optimal operation is possible.

Symptoms

  • E16 appears on the display after a parameter configuration change.
  • SELFDRIVE calibration data from the previous configuration is invalidated.
  • Controller operates in standard regulation mode until recalibration completes.
  • Alarm relay may activate depending on configuration.
  • Any probe or relay assignments tied to the former evaporator count may be incorrect.

Common causes

  • A technician has changed the number-of-evaporators parameter from 1 to 2 or from 2 to 1 during commissioning or a configuration update.
  • Accidental parameter change during a configuration session.
  • Controller restored to factory defaults, resetting the evaporator count.
  • Firmware update or parameter import that changed the evaporator configuration.

Diagnostic steps

  1. 01

    Confirm the evaporator configuration is correct

    Enter the parameter menu and verify the number-of-evaporators parameter matches the physical installation. If a single evaporator is installed, set accordingly; for two evaporators, set to 2.

  2. 02

    Review and correct probe assignments

    After confirming the evaporator count, verify that S1, S2, and S3 probe assignments match the physical probe locations in the updated configuration. Incorrect probe assignments will cause further alarms.

  3. 03

    Review and correct relay output assignments

    Check that compressor, defrost, and fan relay outputs are correctly mapped for the current evaporator count. A change from 2 to 1 evaporator may require relay reassignment.

  4. 04

    Clear E16 by completing configuration

    Save the updated configuration parameters. The controller should clear E16 once the configuration change is accepted and consistent.

  5. 05

    Run SELFDRIVE calibration for the new configuration

    Initiate a SELFDRIVE calibration cycle per the AKO manual. Allow the calibration to complete without door openings before returning the unit to normal operation.
