What does Bell and Gossett E07 mean?

E07 means the motor winding temperature has exceeded the thermal protection threshold on the e-90E Smart Pump. The integrated thermal sensor in the motor windings detected overheating and tripped the drive to protect the insulation from permanent degradation. The pump cannot restart until the motor cools to a safe temperature.

Symptoms

  • Pump stops and displays E07 on the control panel.
  • STATUS LED illuminates red steady.
  • Motor body is hot to the touch above normal operating temperature.
  • Fault may recur shortly after each restart attempt if the cooling issue is not resolved.

Common causes

  • Ambient temperature exceeding the rated maximum for the installation environment.
  • Impeller partially blocked by debris, increasing motor load and heat generation.
  • High fluid temperature beyond the pump's hydraulic rating.
  • Insufficient ventilation around the motor enclosure.
  • Motor operating at the high end of its duty cycle for extended periods.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Allow the motor to cool

Stop the pump and allow the motor to cool naturally. Do not attempt to force-cool with water or compressed air on the electronics. Typical cool-down time is 15–30 minutes depending on ambient conditions.

  2. Inspect and clear the impeller

Check for debris obstructing the impeller — blocked flow forces the motor to work harder and generate excess heat. Remove any visible foreign material before restarting.

  3. Check ambient and fluid temperatures

Verify that room air temperature and system fluid temperature are within specifications. Refer to the motor data plate for maximum ambient temperature. Reduce load if temperatures are at or near limits.

  4. Verify ventilation around the motor

Ensure there is adequate clearance around the motor body for air circulation. Remove any insulation, lagging, or enclosures that restrict airflow over the motor exterior.

  5. Restart and monitor

After confirming ambient and fluid temperatures are within range and the impeller is clear, restart the pump. Monitor for any return of E07. Check parameter P13 (Power Module Temperature) for real-time thermal readings.

When to call a professional

Call a licensed technician if E07 recurs in normal operating conditions after all environmental causes have been corrected. Repeated winding temperature trips indicate failing motor insulation or a malfunctioning thermal sensor — both require motor replacement or factory inspection to resolve safely.
