What does Bell and Gossett E09 mean?

E09 is a generic hardware error on the e-90E Smart Pump indicating an internal fault that does not fall under a more specific error category. The drive has detected an unspecified hardware-level failure and has shut down to prevent further damage. This error requires power cycling as the first diagnostic step.

Symptoms

• Pump stops and displays E09 on the control panel.
• STATUS LED illuminates red steady.
• Fault signal relay activates on terminal pins 4–5 (single-phase) or 24–25 (three-phase).
• No other specific fault code is displayed.

Common causes

• Transient electrical disturbance causing an internal hardware self-test failure.
• Component-level failure on the drive or control PCB.
• Corrupted firmware or microcontroller fault triggered by a power event.
• Age-related hardware degradation in long-running units.

Diagnostic steps

   Power down and wait 5 minutes

   Switch off mains power to the pump and wait at least 5 minutes. This fully discharges the DC bus and allows internal self-test circuitry to reset.

   Restore power and attempt restart

   Reconnect mains supply and restart the pump. If E09 does not reappear, the fault was transient. Monitor the pump for at least 30 minutes to confirm stable operation.

   Review error history parameters

   Access parameters P09 through P12 on the display to review the error history log. Note whether E09 appears alongside other error codes; multiple codes together can indicate a specific hardware failure pattern.

   Contact Xylem if fault persists

   If E09 returns after the 5-minute power cycle, contact Xylem or an Authorized Distributor. Provide the pump model, serial number, and the full error history from P09–P12 to assist with diagnosis.

Engage Xylem or an authorized service center immediately if E09 persists after power cycling. A recurring generic hardware fault requires board-level diagnostics, firmware checks, or drive replacement — tasks that require factory-trained technicians with specialized test equipment.
