Diagnostic steps

  1. Check the interconnecting wiring

Cut power and check that the connection line between IDU and ODU and the wiring inside the electric box are correctly connected; rewire per the wiring diagram if not.

  2. Confirm matching boards

Verify the indoor and outdoor main boards are a matched set; if they do not match, fit the correct board to the product specification.

  3. Replace the communication cord

If the wiring is correct, inspect the communication cord for damage and replace it if needed.

  4. Replace the indoor main board

If the fault remains, replace the IDU main board.

  5. Replace the outdoor main board

If E6 still persists, replace the ODU main board.

When to call a professional

Communication faults usually come down to the interconnecting cable, but ruling that out can mean opening both electric boxes and, ultimately, swapping a main board to a matched specification. That is technician work on live equipment. If a careful check of the connection wiring does not clear E6, bring in a licensed HVAC technician.
