Pitco 1 Flash Error Code
Ignition module orange LED — Ignition Lockout: failed to detect pilot flame within the trial period.
Source: PITCO/pitco_controller_error_codes.txt
What does Pitco 1 Flash mean?
After lockout, the Pitco Matchless ignition module (ICM, PN 60152001) flashes its orange LED once to signal Ignition Lockout: it failed to detect the pilot flame within the trial period (90 seconds USA, 50 seconds CE). Either the pilot did not light or the flame sensor did not detect it, so the module locks out gas for safety. It is an external problem to investigate, not a bad module.
Symptoms
- Orange LED on the ignition module flashes once, pauses, and repeats after lockout.
- Pilot is out and the burner will not fire.
- Module entered lockout after the 90-second (USA) trial period.
- Power-cycling restarts the trial but the module locks out again if the pilot still does not light.
Common causes
- Pilot did not light — no flame established during the trial.
- Gas supply is off or below correct pressure.
- Pilot orifice is clogged or restricted.
- Spark igniter gap is incorrect (gap is 0.2 inches maximum).
- Flame sensor is not positioned in the pilot flame path.

Diagnostic steps
Verify gas supply and pressure
Confirm the gas is on and at the correct supply pressure. No gas or low pressure will prevent the pilot from establishing within the trial period.
Clear the pilot orifice
Inspect and clear the pilot orifice so the pilot can light cleanly and reach the flame sensor.
Check the spark igniter gap
Verify the spark gap is correct — 0.2 inches maximum on this module. An oversized or fouled gap weakens the spark and can stop the pilot from lighting.
Reposition the flame sensor
Confirm the flame sensor sits in the pilot flame path so the module can rectify the flame. A sensor out of the flame reads no flame even when the pilot is lit.
Power-cycle to clear the lockout
Turn the fryer off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it on to clear the lockout and restart the ignition trial after correcting the cause.
When to call a professional
Call a Pitco-authorized technician if 1 Flash recurs after confirming gas supply, clearing the pilot orifice, setting the spark gap, and positioning the flame sensor. Persistent ignition lockout can involve gas valve, igniter, or flame-rectification problems that require a technician trained to work safely on the gas and ignition system and to measure flame current.
