E14 on the Utica-Dunkirk DMG-240 condensing boiler means the burner failed to ignite on five consecutive start attempts. After the fifth failed ignition sequence, the boiler enters lockout and displays E14. Each start attempt involves the spark electrode firing for up to 5 seconds; if no flame is proven within that window, the attempt counts as a failure.

   Remove the electrode assembly and inspect for cracks in the ceramic insulator, carbon bridging, or incorrect gap. Clean with fine emery cloth and reset the gap per IOM specifications.

   Inspect both the combustion air inlet and flue terminal for blockage by debris, ice, bird nests, or poor installation clearances that prevent adequate combustion air.

   Purge air from the gas supply line

   If the installation is new or gas was recently interrupted, purge air from the supply by cracking a union downstream of the meter, then reseal and retry ignition.

   Reset the boiler and attempt restart

   Press and hold the RESET button for 2 seconds. If spark is present but no gas ignites, the gas valve, PCB spark circuit, or burner assembly requires further diagnosis.
