What does Weil McLain F66 mean?

F66 indicates a software mismatch between the control board firmware and the connected hardware or programming. The boiler is forced to stop completely. The fault cannot resolve on its own — the controller must either be re-programmed with matching firmware or replaced with a compatible unit.

Symptoms

• Boiler displays F66 and stops all operation.
• Fault typically appears after a control board replacement with an incompatible firmware version.
• No heating or hot water output while F66 is active.
• Fault does not clear on its own or with a standard reset.

Common causes

• Replacement control board installed with firmware version incompatible with the boiler model.
• Firmware corruption on the existing control board.
• Incorrect board parameters not set after installing a new replacement control board.
• Control board replaced without reprogramming boiler model-specific parameters (b01–b12).

Diagnostic steps

1. 01

   Verify control board compatibility

   Confirm the replacement control board part number matches the AquaBalance model installed. A new board out of the box is factory-programmed for the AB-120-N-C; other models require parameter reconfiguration.

2. 02

   Set model-specific parameters on a new board

   Access the configuration menu (hold DHW+ and DHW– for 10 seconds) and set parameters b01 through b12 per the Default Control Board parameter table in the boiler manual for the specific boiler model.

3. 03

   Re-program or replace the control board

   If the existing board has corrupted firmware, contact Weil-McLain technical support for re-programming options or order a compatible replacement control board.

4. 04

   Cycle power after parameter setting

   After all required parameters are set, power the boiler off and on completely. Confirm F66 no longer appears on startup.

When to call a professional

F66 always requires technician intervention for control board re-programming or replacement. A new board installed without properly configuring model-specific parameters b01–b12 will generate F66 immediately. Do not operate the boiler with F66 active; the software mismatch prevents the control system from managing the boiler within its safe design parameters.
