AccuTemp Err Error Code
Control board does not detect a temperature sensor (RTD) connection
Source: AccuTemp/xlr8__ACC-xlr8_pm.pdf
What does AccuTemp Err mean?
On the AccuTemp XLR8 heated platen, the digital control shows "Err" when the control board cannot detect a temperature sensor connection. The platen uses three RTD sensors (front, middle and back) wired to control-board terminals J3, J4 and J5. If the board loses the signal from one of these RTDs, it cannot read platen temperature and displays the error instead of heating to set point.
Symptoms
- Digital display reads "Err" instead of a temperature
- Unit will not heat to or hold its set point
- Heat-call LED lights behave abnormally or stay off
- Cooking is uneven or product comes out undercooked
Common causes
- Loose or disconnected RTD connection at control-board terminal J3, J4 or J5
- Damaged or open RTD sensor on the front, middle or back zone
- Broken or pinched lead wire between an RTD and the control board
- Failed control board that cannot read the sensor input

Diagnostic steps
Power down and open the control
Turn the unit off and remove it from power. Access the control board so the RTD connections at J3, J4 and J5 are visible.
Inspect the three RTD connections
Check the RTD connections at terminals J3, J4 and J5. Reseat any loose plug and look for broken or pinched lead wires between each sensor and the board.
Test each RTD's resistance
If the connections look good, test the resistance across the black and white wires for each RTD and compare the reading to the resistance table in the service manual.
Replace the faulty RTD or board
Replace any RTD whose resistance is out of range. If all RTDs read correctly but "Err" persists, the control board is suspect and should be replaced.
Call AccuTemp service if unresolved
If the error remains after checking sensors and wiring, contact AccuTemp Technical Service at 800-480-0415 for the nearest authorized service agent.
When to call a professional
Diagnosing "Err" means opening the control compartment, where line voltage is present, and using a meter to test RTD resistance against a service table. If you are not comfortable working inside the energized control, or the error remains after reseating the RTD connections at J3, J4 and J5, call AccuTemp Technical Service at 800-480-0415. Component replacement should be done by authorized service personnel to keep the warranty valid.
