What does Eliwell E15 mean?

E15 on the Eliwell RTX-600 signals that the Power-Pack module is inoperable. The Power-Pack is an auxiliary module that provides battery-backed operation and extended functionality to the RTX-600. When E15 activates, the Power-Pack has failed or lost communication, and any functions it supports — such as emergency valve positioning during power outages — are no longer available.

Symptoms

  • Display shows 'E15' with the alarm icon permanently on.
  • Alarm recorded in the ALr folder.
  • Power-Pack module is not responding to the controller.
  • Battery-backed emergency functions are unavailable.
  • Buzzer activates if fitted.

Common causes

  • Power-Pack module has lost power supply or the power fuse has blown.
  • Power-Pack internal battery is fully discharged or has failed.
  • Communication or interconnecting wiring between the RTX-600 and Power-Pack is broken.
  • Power-Pack module hardware has failed internally.
  • Incorrect Power-Pack type connected or module address misconfigured.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Check Power-Pack module power supply

Verify that the Power-Pack is receiving the correct supply voltage at its power input terminals. Check any associated fuse or circuit breaker.

  2. Inspect interconnecting wiring

Power down and examine all cables between the RTX-600 and the Power-Pack module for loose connections, broken conductors, or damaged connectors.

  3. Check Power-Pack LED indicators

Observe the Power-Pack module's status LEDs (if present) for fault indication. A red fault LED or no LED at all confirms the module is not operational.

  4. Attempt power cycle of the Power-Pack

Disconnect Power-Pack power for 60 seconds, reconnect, and allow the module to initialise. Observe whether E15 clears after the module restarts.

  5. Replace the Power-Pack module if fault persists

If E15 remains after verifying supply and wiring, the Power-Pack module requires replacement with the correct Eliwell-approved unit for the RTX-600.

When to call a professional

Power-Pack replacement involves working inside an energised panel and reconfiguring battery-backed emergency valve functions. A licensed refrigeration engineer should perform this work to ensure the replacement module is correctly specified, wired, and commissioned, restoring emergency protection for the expansion valve.
