What does Frymaster E32 mean?

During a filtration or top-off cycle, the FQ4000 controller commanded the motorized drain valve to open and waited for feedback confirmation that the valve reached the open position. That confirmation never arrived. The controller aborted the filtration sequence and disabled both filtration and automatic top-off to prevent an uncontrolled oil flow condition. Cooking continues but the oil cannot be filtered.

Symptoms

• Display shows E32; filtration does not begin or stops partway through the drain phase.
• Oil in the vat is not draining into the filter pan despite a filtration command.
• Automatic top-off function is also disabled alongside filtration.
• Error may coincide with an unusual valve sound (motor stalling or not running).

Common causes

• Drain valve motor failed or seized — the actuator cannot drive the valve to the open position.
• Valve position feedback switch not actuating at the open position due to misalignment or switch failure.
• VIB (Valve Interface Board) wiring fault — broken or corroded signal wire between the VIB and the drain valve assembly.
• Mechanical obstruction in the drain valve (solidified grease or debris) preventing full travel.
• VIB board failure preventing the valve drive signal from reaching the actuator motor.

Diagnostic steps

   Power down and inspect the drain valve mechanism

   Switch the fryer off and cool the oil. Visually inspect the drain valve actuator for signs of seized movement, stripped gears, or burnt motor winding smell. Attempt to manually cycle the valve (if a manual override is accessible) to check for mechanical binding.

   Check the valve wiring and connector at the VIB board

   Inspect the wiring harness from the drain valve actuator to the VIB board for damaged insulation, loose connectors, or corrosion. Reseat all connectors and check that the feedback switch wires are intact and continuous.

   Test the feedback switch at the open position

   Manually drive the valve to its open position (if possible) and check continuity on the position feedback switch. No continuity at the open position indicates a misaligned or failed feedback switch that must be adjusted or replaced.

   Use the component check function

   Navigate to Home > Service > Component Check on the FQ4000 controller to command the drain valve open directly and observe whether the actuator responds and the position feedback is received. This isolates whether the fault is electrical (no response) or mechanical (motor runs but no confirmation).

   Escalate to VIB board or valve replacement

   If wiring is intact and the valve actuator does not respond to component check commands, the VIB board is the likely failure. If the actuator runs but feedback is missing, replace the valve assembly or feedback switch.
