E33Frymaster

Frymaster E33 Error Code

Drain valve not closed. The drain valve was commanded closed but confirmation is missing; filtration and top-off disabled. Call service.

What does Frymaster E33 mean?

The controller commanded the motorized drain valve to close at the end of a filtration cycle and waited for position feedback confirming the valve reached the fully closed position. That confirmation was not received. To avoid leaving the drain open and allowing oil to continue draining uncontrolled, the controller disables further filtration and automatic top-off. Cooking may continue, but a partially open drain valve is a potential oil spill hazard.

Symptoms

  • Display shows E33 at the end of a filtration cycle, or when the drain valve was commanded to close.
  • Oil may continue trickling into the filter pan if the valve is physically not closed.
  • Filtration and automatic top-off are disabled until the fault is cleared.
  • Frypot may slowly lose oil level if the drain is not fully seated.

Common causes

  • Drain valve actuator motor failed or stalled before reaching the fully closed position.
  • Valve feedback switch misaligned or failed — not signaling the closed position even when the valve is physically closed.
  • Mechanical obstruction (solidified grease or debris) preventing the valve from fully seating.
  • VIB board wiring fault — open circuit in the closed-position feedback wire.
  • VIB board failure preventing receipt of the feedback signal.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Confirm the drain valve physical position

With the fryer off and oil cooled, visually inspect the drain valve to determine if it is physically open or closed. If oil is still draining, the valve has not physically closed — isolate the issue as mechanical before suspecting electronics.

  2. Check for mechanical binding

Inspect the drain valve for hardened grease or debris preventing it from fully seating closed. Clean the valve seat and any debris in the valve travel path. Attempt to cycle the valve using the component check function.

  3. Inspect the closed-position feedback switch

With the valve physically closed, check continuity on the closed-position feedback switch. If the switch does not signal closed when the valve is visually confirmed seated, the switch is misaligned or failed and must be adjusted or replaced.

  4. Inspect VIB harness for the closed-feedback signal wire

Trace the signal wire from the closed-position feedback switch to the VIB board. Look for pinched, cut, or corroded wire. Measure continuity end-to-end. An open circuit in this wire produces E33 regardless of the valve or switch condition.

  5. Replace valve assembly or VIB board

Replace the drain valve actuator if the motor stalls before closing, or the VIB board if wiring is confirmed intact but the board is not receiving the signal. Clear the error and run a complete filtration cycle to confirm resolution.

When to call a professional

Contact a licensed Frymaster technician immediately if the drain valve is physically not closing and hot oil is draining into the filter pan uncontrolled. This is a burn and fire hazard. Any valve actuator or VIB board replacement should be performed by a qualified servicer to ensure correct reassembly. Frymaster service: 1-800-551-8633.
