E35Frymaster

Frymaster E35 Error Code

Return valve not closed. The return (or right) valve was commanded closed but confirmation is missing; filtration and top-off disabled. Call service.

What does Frymaster E35 mean?

After filtered oil was returned to the frypot, the controller commanded the return valve closed but did not receive position feedback confirming the valve reached the fully closed position. The controller disables filtration and top-off as a precaution against an open return path during subsequent operations. This is the closed-position counterpart to E34.

Symptoms

  • Display shows E35 at the end of the filtration return phase.
  • Filtration cycle completes the oil return but E35 is logged and functions are disabled.
  • Return valve may be physically open, allowing oil backflow if pump activates.
  • Filtration and auto top-off remain locked out until the fault is resolved.

Common causes

  • Return valve actuator stalled before reaching the fully closed position.
  • Closed-position feedback switch misaligned, dirty, or failed.
  • Mechanical obstruction preventing the return valve from fully seating in the closed position.
  • VIB harness wiring fault — open circuit in the closed-position feedback wire.
  • VIB board failure preventing receipt of the closed-position signal.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Visually confirm return valve position

With the fryer off and oil cooled, inspect the return valve to determine if it is physically closed. If the valve is open despite the close command, the mechanical system has failed to actuate — proceed with motor and linkage inspection.

  2. Check for binding or obstruction

Inspect the return valve seat and travel path for hardened grease or debris that could prevent full closure. Clean the valve assembly and attempt to manually cycle it if an override is available.

  3. Test the closed-position feedback switch

With the valve physically closed, measure continuity across the closed-position feedback switch. No continuity when physically closed indicates a misaligned or failed switch. Adjust switch position or replace.

  4. Inspect the VIB feedback wiring

Trace and measure continuity on the closed-feedback signal wire from the switch to the VIB board. Repair or replace any open-circuit wiring segment found.

  5. Replace actuator or VIB board as indicated

Replace the return valve actuator if it cannot drive the valve to the closed position. Replace the VIB board if all wiring and switches test good but the board is not registering the feedback. Verify by running a complete filtration cycle.

When to call a professional

Call a licensed technician for return valve actuator or VIB board replacement. As with E34, the return valve is in the hot oil circuit and must not be serviced with hot oil in the system. Frymaster service: 1-800-551-8633.
