What does Frymaster E39 mean?

The FQ4000 tracks cumulative filtration hours and monitors filter-pan flow characteristics. E39 appears when either the 25-hour filter pad service timer has expired or the controller's dirty-filter detection logic has determined the filter pad is too clogged to provide effective filtration. This is a maintenance reminder, not a critical fault — the fryer continues to operate, but filtration effectiveness is compromised.

Symptoms

• Display shows E39 as a maintenance alert; fryer continues heating and cooking.
• Filtration cycle may take longer than usual if the pad is physically clogged.
• Oil in the vat may appear darker or more degraded than expected for the usage interval.
• Alert resets after the filter pad is replaced and the timer is cleared.

Common causes

• 25-hour filter pad service timer has expired — normal scheduled maintenance.
• High-volume frying has loaded the filter pad with crumb and carbon faster than the timer interval.

Diagnostic steps

   Filter the oil and drain the filter pan

   Run a complete filtration cycle to empty the frypot into the filter pan. Ensure the pan is positioned correctly and the drain valve opens fully. Allow the oil to filter through and return to the vat before proceeding.

   Remove and inspect the filter pad

   With the pan drained and cooled, remove the filter crumb screen and filter pad. A visibly saturated, crumbled, or discolored pad must be replaced. Never reuse a filter pad.

   Install a new filter pad and screen

   Place a fresh Frymaster-approved filter pad in the pan with the correct orientation (printed side up if applicable). Reinstall the crumb screen on top. Ensure the pad fully covers the pan bottom with no gaps at the edges.

   Reset the filter timer

   After replacing the pad, navigate to Home > Filtration > Reset Filter Pad Timer on the FQ4000 controller to clear the E39 alert and restart the 25-hour counter. The exact menu path may vary by software version — consult the operation manual for your controller revision.

   Verify filtration performance

   Run a short filtration cycle and confirm oil returns to the vat clear without excessive debris. Observe the cycle time — if filtration still seems slow after a new pad is installed, inspect the crumb screen and filter pan for blockage.
