Frymaster E55 Error Code
System interface board 2 missing. SIB board 2 connection lost or board failure. Call service.

What does Frymaster E55 mean?
The FQ4000 controller has lost CAN bus communication with System Interface Board 2 (SIB 2). On multi-vat or split-vat fryer configurations, SIB 2 controls the second vat's heating relays and safety interlock circuit. Without SIB 2, the second vat cannot heat and all heating safety monitoring for that vat is lost. The first vat (on SIB 1) may continue operating normally. This is the SIB 2 counterpart to E46.
Symptoms
- Display shows E55; the vat connected to SIB 2 stops heating immediately.
- The vat on SIB 1 (if present) continues to operate normally.
- No response to heat commands on the SIB 2 vat.
- Oil temperature in the SIB 2 vat drops progressively with no recovery.
Common causes
- CAN bus cable disconnected or damaged between the controller and SIB 2.
- SIB 2 board failed internally.
- Missing or failed CAN termination resistor on the SIB 2 network segment.
- Loose or corroded CAN connector at the SIB 2 board.
- SIB 2 24 VAC power supply fault — blown fuse or open wiring.

Diagnostic steps
Power cycle the fryer
Turn the fryer off, wait 30 seconds, and restore power. If E55 clears on reboot, the fault was a transient CAN communication drop. Monitor for recurrence.
Inspect CAN cable and SIB 2 connector
Locate SIB 2 in the component box. Inspect the CAN bus connector for loose seating, bent pins, or corrosion. Inspect the CAN cable along its routing path for damage. Reseat all connectors and retest.
Verify CAN bus termination at SIB 2
If SIB 2 is at the endpoint of the CAN network, confirm its 120 Ω termination resistor is installed and intact. Measure CANH to CANL resistance with power off to verify the network termination is correct.
Check SIB 2 power supply
Measure 24 VAC at the SIB 2 power input. No voltage indicates a blown fuse in the SIB 2 power circuit or an open wiring segment. Locate and replace the blown fuse or repair the wiring.
Replace SIB 2 board
If power is confirmed at SIB 2, CAN connections are good, and E55 persists, SIB 2 has failed internally and requires replacement with an OEM part. After replacement, power the fryer and verify the controller recognizes SIB 2 and the second vat heats normally.
When to call a professional
Like E46, E55 always requires a licensed Frymaster technician for SIB board replacement. The SIB controls heating and safety interlock circuits — incorrect installation or configuration creates heating control and safety hazards. Frymaster service: 1-800-551-8633.
