What does Frymaster E62 mean?
E62 is a general slow-heat diagnostic fault distinct from E44/E45 (recovery fault during cooking). It indicates the vat is not reaching or maintaining setpoint at a rate consistent with the fryer's specification — either the energy delivery rate is too low or the heat is not reaching the oil effectively. The controller logs this when heating performance is degraded but has not yet tripped a hard lockout.
Symptoms
- Display shows E62 with a check energy source message.
- Oil temperature climbs very slowly or plateaus well below setpoint.
- Fryer takes significantly longer than specified to heat from cold.
- Recovery after product load is sluggish and may trigger E44 as well.
Common causes
- Gas supply pressure below the rated specification, limiting burner output.
- One or more heating elements failed on electric models, reducing total wattage.
- Partially blocked burner orifices reducing gas flow on gas models.
- SIB board heat or latch relay not fully engaging, causing intermittent heat output.
- Incorrect energy type configured in the controller (see also E61).
- Heavy scale or buildup on heating elements (electric) reducing heat transfer efficiency.

Diagnostic steps
Check gas supply pressure (gas models)
Measure manifold gas pressure with a manometer while the burner is firing. Verify the reading against the specification on the fryer's rating plate. Low pressure requires a gas company check or an adjustment of the gas pressure regulator.
Inspect heating elements (electric models)
De-energize the fryer and measure resistance across each heating element. A significantly high or open reading indicates a failed element. Also inspect elements for scale or mineral deposit buildup — clean or replace as needed.
Inspect burners and orifices (gas models)
With the fryer off and cool, inspect each burner for grease or debris obstruction and check orifices for blockage. Clean clogged orifices with the appropriate tool — do not enlarge them with metal tools.
Verify SIB relay operation
During a heat cycle, observe SIB board LED indicators. All heating-related LEDs must stay lit continuously. Flickering or off LEDs during a heat call indicate a relay not fully engaging — the SIB board requires replacement.
Confirm energy type configuration
Navigate to the energy type setting in the service menu and confirm it matches the physical fryer. An incorrect energy type setting (E61) causes E62 because the controller is running the wrong heating sequence.
When to call a professional
E62 requires a licensed technician if the energy source checks out and the fault is traced to a failed heating element, gas valve, or SIB board. These are component-level replacements involving high-voltage wiring (electric) or gas system components (gas). Frymaster service: 1-800-551-8633.
