What does Frymaster E64 mean?
The Filtration Interface Board (FIB) manages the filtration pump motor and related filtration circuit components. E64 means the FQ4000 controller has lost CAN bus communication with the FIB or the board has failed internally. Without the FIB, the filtration pump cannot be commanded, so all filtration and automatic top-off functions are disabled. Cooking continues normally but oil quality degrades without filtration.
Symptoms
- Display shows E64; filtration cannot be initiated.
- Filtration pump does not run when a filtration cycle is commanded.
- Auto top-off is also disabled alongside filtration.
- Error persists across power cycles if the FIB or its CAN connection has failed.
Common causes
- FIB board failed internally — processor or power fault on the board.
- CAN bus cable disconnected or damaged between the controller and the FIB.
- Missing or failed CAN termination resistor on the FIB network segment.
- Loose or corroded CAN connector at the FIB board.
- FIB board power supply fault — blown fuse or open wiring to the board.
Diagnostic steps

Power cycle the fryer
Switch the fryer off, wait 30 seconds, and restore power. A transient CAN fault can cause E64 and may clear on a clean reboot. If E64 returns immediately, the fault is persistent.

Inspect the CAN cable and FIB board connector
Locate the FIB board in the filter box or main component enclosure. Inspect the CAN bus connector for loose seating, bent pins, or corrosion. Inspect the CAN cable for damage along its routing. Reseat all connectors and retest.

Verify CAN termination at the FIB
If the FIB is at a CAN network endpoint, confirm the 120 Ω termination resistor is present and intact. A missing terminator causes CAN communication failures on the FIB segment.

Check FIB board power supply
Measure the supply voltage at the FIB board power input. No voltage indicates a blown fuse on the FIB power circuit or an open wiring segment. Locate and replace the blown fuse or repair the wiring.

Replace the FIB board
If power is confirmed at the FIB, CAN connections are good, and E64 persists, the FIB board has failed internally and requires OEM replacement. After replacement, run a complete filtration cycle to verify the pump and filtration circuit respond correctly.
