What does Frymaster E82 mean?

The AIF (Automatic Intermittent Filtration) or ATO (Auto Top-Off) probe has detected that oil level in the vat is below the minimum required to cover the probe sensors. This is a cloud-reported monitoring alert — the FQ4000 sends this condition to a connected management system (such as Frymaster's remote monitoring platform) rather than displaying a hard fault on the fryer. The vat needs oil added to bring the level above the AIF/ATO probe position.

Symptoms

• Alert appears in the cloud management dashboard or remote monitoring system, not necessarily on the fryer display.
• Auto top-off system may be active but unable to keep up with oil consumption.
• AIF filtration cycle may not initiate due to low oil level.
• Vat oil level is visibly below the minimum fill mark inside the frypot.

Common causes

• High oil consumption from heavy breaded product cooking causing rapid oil absorption.
• JIB (jug in box) or bulk oil reservoir empty — auto top-off cannot supply oil.
• ATO system malfunction preventing automatic top-off from functioning.
• Oil was manually drained and not fully refilled.

Diagnostic steps

   Check the oil level in the vat

   Confirm the frypot oil level is at or below the minimum mark. Do not heat the fryer with insufficient oil — the heating elements or burners can overheat without adequate oil mass surrounding them.

   Check and replace the JIB or bulk oil supply

   If the fryer uses an automatic top-off system with a JIB or bulk oil tank, check whether the supply is empty. Replace the JIB or refill the bulk tank as applicable.

   Manually add oil to the vat if needed

   If the top-off system cannot restore the oil level quickly enough, manually add fresh oil of the correct type to bring the vat to the proper fill mark. Do not overfill above the maximum mark.

   Verify the ATO system is functioning

   After restoring the oil supply, confirm the auto top-off system resumes operation. If the system was not topping off despite an available supply, check the ATO probe (E29), float switch (E65), and top-off valve for faults.
