Frymaster E88

What does Frymaster E88 mean?

The right/central return valve was commanded closed at the end of a filtration return phase and the closed-position confirmation feedback was not received. Filtration and top-off are disabled. This is the closed-position counterpart to E87 and mirrors E86 for the right/central valve position in a three-valve battery installation.

Symptoms

• Display shows E88 at the end of a filtration return phase.
• Right/central return valve may be physically open.
• Filtration and auto top-off locked out.
• Oil may backflow through the open return valve during subsequent pump operations.

Common causes

• Right/central return valve actuator stalled before reaching closed position.
• Closed-position feedback switch misaligned or failed.
• Mechanical obstruction preventing full valve closure.
• VIB harness open-circuit on the right/central valve closed-feedback wire.
• VIB board failure.

Diagnostic steps

1. 01

   Confirm valve physical position

   With fryer off and oil cooled, inspect whether the right/central return valve is physically closed or open.

2. 02

   Inspect for obstruction and clean

   Check valve seat for hardened grease or debris. Clean and manually cycle if accessible.

3. 03

   Test the closed-position feedback switch

   With valve physically closed, measure continuity on the closed-position switch. No continuity confirms a failed or misaligned switch.

4. 04

   Check VIB feedback wiring

   Measure continuity on the closed-feedback wire from the switch to the VIB board. Repair any open circuit.

5. 05

   Replace actuator or VIB board and test

   Replace the actuator if it cannot drive to closed, or the VIB board if all components test good. Run a filtration cycle to verify resolution.
