What does RM Gastro E2 mean?

E2 indicates an error caused by the digital management system on RM Gastro induction ranges fitted with digital control. The display shows “E2” and the error number. Sub-codes cover a damaged LIN control knob, a keypad stuck permanently on, an open or colliding LIN bus, keypad supply-voltage problems, self-diagnostic faults and invalid configuration data.

Symptoms

  • Display reads “E2” followed by a number
  • Keypad or control knob unresponsive or stuck permanently on
  • Cooking zone will not respond to control inputs
  • Recurring fault even after switching the appliance off and on

Common causes

  • Damaged LIN control knob (E2 2)
  • Water or cookware on the cooking zone, or faulty buttons keeping the keyboard on (E2 3)
  • Open LIN bus with no communication detected, or a LIN bus address collision (E2 5, E2 6)
  • Broken wiring or faulty control-unit ID between keypad and generator (E2 10)
  • Keypad supply-voltage problems (E2 14)
  • Self-diagnostic error, invalid configuration data or incompatible LIN version (E2 11, E2 13, E2 20)

Diagnostic steps

  1. Clear and dry the control area

Wipe water or cookware off the cooking-zone control area; liquid or objects on the keypad can hold the keyboard permanently on.

  2. Power-cycle the appliance

Turn the appliance off and on again. For self-diagnostic errors, if the problem persists after restarting, the manual says to contact the service centre.

  3. Check the LIN bus connection

Verify the LIN bus wiring and node ID for open-bus or collision codes; correct the connection between the keypad and the generator if the cable is broken.

  4. Set the DIP switch correctly

For a faulty control-unit ID, turn off the generator and set the DIP switch to the correct address as per the installation instructions.

  5. Replace the LIN control knob or control unit

A damaged LIN control knob is replaced; a keypad fault that does not clear after cleaning calls for replacing the control unit.

  6. Contact service for configuration faults

Invalid configuration data and incompatible LIN versions are not user-serviceable — the manual directs you to contact customer service.

When to call a professional

Replacing the LIN control knob or control unit, setting DIP-switch IDs, and any LIN-bus, configuration-data or firmware-version fault should be handled by an authorised technician. The manual explicitly says to contact customer service for invalid configuration data and LIN-version incompatibility. If clearing the control area and a power-cycle do not clear E2, stop and call service rather than opening the unit.
