Unox AF01

What does Unox AF01 mean?

AF01 is a permanent motor thermal protection alarm. The fan motor that circulates air in the cooking chamber has overheated and its internal thermal protection circuit has opened, stopping the oven. The control board reads the open protection circuit on the motor wiring and locks the appliance out until the fault is cleared and the cause corrected.

Symptoms

• AF01 shown on the control panel and the oven stops
• Cooking chamber fan does not run
• Oven trips again shortly after restarting
• Possible burning or overheating smell from the motor area

Common causes

• Fan motor overheated and its thermal protection circuit opened
• Failed run capacitor feeding the motor
• Open or damaged wiring harness between the P2 socket and the motor
• Cooling fan not running or an external heat source raising motor temperature
• Motor mechanically stuck by the shaft
• Faulty power board

Diagnostic steps

   Disconnect power and test the motor circuit

   Turn off the power supply, disconnect the P2 socket and check electrical continuity between pins 4 and 5 (F and TM on the board) with a multimeter set to ohms.

   Check the run capacitors

   Test each capacitor; the manual specifies 6.3 µF per capacitor. Replace any capacitor that does not read the correct value.

   Test the motor windings

   Unplug each motor and check continuity across the motor's white cables; if a motor's thermal protection circuit reads open, replace that motor.

4. 04

   Check the wiring harness

   Measure continuity pin to pin from the P2 socket to the motor plug and restore or replace the harness if it is open.

   Inspect cooling and mechanics

   Confirm the cooling fan runs, the motor is not stuck by the shaft, and there is no external heat source raising the motor temperature; replace the power board if the alarm persists.

When to call a professional

AF01 requires opening the oven, working near mains wiring and the high-voltage motor capacitors, and using a multimeter to test windings, capacitors and the power board. These tasks demand a qualified Unox service technician. If you cannot verify the cooling fan and motor mechanically with the power off, stop and book service rather than restarting a motor that keeps tripping.
