What does Dixell/Copeland E05 mean?

On the Dixell XEV02D, E05 is a missing regulation signal alarm. The analogue control input (0–10 V or 4–20 mA) from the master controller has dropped below the dSL threshold (minimum signal level in percent) for longer than the dEr timer. The module disables its outputs and activates the alarm relay. The alarm resets automatically once the control signal recovers above dSL.

Symptoms

  • Display shows 'E05'; TRIAC output, compressor relay, and valve control are disabled.
  • Alarm relay activates.
  • System stops modulating the digital unloader valve.
  • Fault clears automatically when signal exceeds dSL — no manual reset required.

Common causes

  • Master controller analogue output failure or wiring break between master and XEV02D.
  • Incorrect signal type wired (e.g., 0–10 V connected but XEV02D configured for 4–20 mA).
  • Master controller in alarm or off state, dropping its analogue output to zero.
  • dSL parameter set too high, causing trips during normal low-load operation.
  • Interference or ground loops corrupting the analogue signal below threshold.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Measure the analogue control signal at XEV02D input terminals

Using a multimeter, verify the voltage (0–10 V) or current (4–20 mA) at XEV02D input terminals. Compare to the expected signal from the master controller at current operating conditions.

  2. Check master controller status

Confirm the master controller is powered, in regulation mode, and actively outputting a control signal. A controller in alarm or standby mode may drop its output to zero, triggering E05.

  3. Inspect analogue signal wiring

Check wiring continuity from master controller analogue output to XEV02D input terminals. Look for loose terminals, damaged cable, or connections crossed with other circuits.

  4. Verify dSL parameter setting

Check parameter dSL in the XEV02D menu. If dSL is set too high (e.g., 20%), low-load operation may legitimately drop below it. Adjust to match the application minimum signal level.

  5. Check Si0 and Si1 input scaling parameters

Verify that Si0 (minimum input %) and Si1 (maximum input %) match the master controller's output range. Incorrect scaling shifts the effective dSL threshold.

When to call a professional

If the master controller itself is faulty and generating an invalid signal, or if the analogue wiring runs are complex, involve a qualified service technician familiar with both the master controller and the XEV02D configuration. Analogue signal calibration and multi-controller integration issues often require systematic bench testing.
