What does Manitowoc Ice E01 mean?
Manitowoc Indigo code E01 is the long-freeze-cycle fault. The control board timed a freeze cycle far beyond its expected length, and after six consecutive 60-minute freeze cycles the machine shuts itself down on its freeze-time safety limit, flashing the SL#1 light on the control board. It means the machine could not build the ice slab in a normal time.
Symptoms
- Machine stopped with E01 in the display/event log and the SL#1 board light flashing
- Freeze cycles noticeably longer than normal before the shutdown
- Thin, incomplete or missing ice fill on the evaporator
- Low ice production over the day
Common causes
- Dirty condenser or blocked airflow around the machine
- Low refrigerant charge or a starving expansion valve
- Hot-gas/harvest valve leaking during freeze
- Poor incoming water supply (filter, pressure or inlet valve)
- Failed liquid-line thermistor skewing cycle control
Diagnostic steps

Restart and observe a full cycle
Power-cycle the machine and watch one complete freeze cycle; note the freeze time and how the ice forms across the evaporator (thin at inlet vs outlet vs spotty).

Check the condenser and airflow
Clean the condenser coil and confirm clearances; a hot, dirty condenser lengthens freeze cycles and can also raise E04.

Check the water system
Confirm water reaches the sump: inlet valve, filter, and water-level sensing; low water starves the slab and stretches the freeze.

Run the freeze-cycle analysis
Use the handbook's freeze-cycle analysis charts (discharge/suction readings plus ice-fill pattern) to separate a leaking harvest valve, low charge/starving TXV, flooding TXV, or compressor problem.
