What does Manitowoc Ice E04 mean?
Code E04 is the high-condenser-temperature fault: the board saw the liquid-line temperature climb too high during operation. On self-contained air-cooled machines that reads as an air-cooled condenser fault; on water-cooled machines, a water-cooled condenser fault. The machine is rejecting heat poorly and will shut down to protect itself.
Symptoms
- E04 in the display or event log, often with hot air blasting from the condenser
- Machine cuts out on hot days or in tight installs
- Long freeze cycles and low production before the fault
- On water-cooled units: warm or restricted condenser water flow
Common causes
- Dirty/blocked condenser coil or clogged air filter
- Insufficient clearance or hot ambient air recirculating into the condenser
- Condenser fan not running or fan-cycle control stuck
- Water-cooled: water regulating valve or supply problem

Clean the condenser
Clean the coil and any air filter, and clear the space around the machine so cool air can reach it.

Verify the fan
Confirm the condenser fan runs during freeze; test the fan-cycle control against its cut-in/cut-out spec from the handbook.

Water-cooled checks
Confirm condenser water flow and temperature and that the water-regulating valve opens as head pressure rises.

Recheck after cooldown
Let the machine cool, restart, and confirm the liquid-line temperature stays in range through a full freeze cycle.
