What does Carel E19 mean?

E19 on the Carel Heosone controller (document +0300099EN) is a condenser fan fault alarm. The Heosone is a high-efficiency controller designed for propane (R290) plug-in refrigeration cabinets with inverter-driven DC compressors. When the controller detects that the condenser fan has failed or is not operating within expected parameters, it activates E19 as an automatic-reset alarm. Without condenser fan airflow, the condensing pressure rises and the compressor risks operating outside its envelope.

Symptoms

  • E19 displayed on the Heosone user terminal, alternating with the set-point temperature.
  • Condenser fan is stopped or operating at an abnormal speed.

    Observe the condenser fan at the rear of the plug-in cabinet. If it is stopped or running at erratic speed during normal compressor operation, the fault is confirmed. Check for visible obstructions — ice or debris blocking the blade.

    Check for ice build-up on the condenser

    On plug-in propane cabinets the condenser is often at the back or base. Ice formation on the condenser coil or fan can stall the fan. If ice is present, perform a manual defrost and allow the ice to melt before restarting.

    Inspect fan motor and wiring

    After isolating the cabinet from the mains, check the fan motor terminals for supply voltage and measure motor winding resistance. An open or shorted winding confirms motor failure. Inspect the fan wiring harness for chafed or disconnected conductors.

    Check controller fan output and speed feedback

    Refer to the Heosone wiring diagram to identify the fan control output (0–10 V analogue or PWM signal). Verify the controller is outputting the correct signal. If the control signal is present but the fan does not respond, the fan module or motor driver is at fault.

    Replace the fan and verify E19 clears

    Install a compatible replacement condenser fan. After powering up, confirm the fan starts correctly and E19 clears automatically. Monitor condensing temperature or pressure to verify normal heat rejection has resumed.
