What does Carel E220 mean?

E220 is a room humidity probe fault on the Carel humiSteam humidifier. The controller has detected that the room humidity probe configured for ON/OFF humidification demand is not connected or is producing an invalid signal. Without a valid humidity reading, the humidifier cannot operate in closed-loop humidity control and reverts to the configured fallback or disables humidification.

Symptoms

• E220 displayed on the humidifier controller.
• Humidifier disabled or humidification output halted.
• Room humidity reading shows an invalid value or dashes on the display.
• Alarm relay activates depending on controller configuration.

• Humidity probe connector disconnected from the controller input terminal.

Diagnostic steps

   Check probe connection at the controller terminal block

   Inspect the humidity probe signal and power wires at the input terminals. Tighten any loose connections and ensure the connector is fully seated. A disconnected wire immediately triggers E220.

   Verify parameter A0 configuration

   Access the controller parameter settings and check that parameter A0 is configured correctly for the ON/OFF probe type installed. An incorrect setting causes the controller to reject valid probe signals.

   Measure probe supply voltage

   With the humidifier powered on, measure the supply voltage at the probe terminals. Absence of supply voltage confirms a wiring break or blown protection fuse that must be corrected.

   Test probe output signal

   Measure the probe analog output under known humidity conditions. An out-of-range or zero output with correct supply voltage present confirms probe sensor failure requiring replacement.

   Replace the probe if defective

   Install a compatible Carel or OEM replacement humidity probe. After replacing, recheck parameter A0 and confirm the room humidity reading is plausible before restoring normal operation.
