What does Carel E223 mean?

E223 is an outlet probe fault on the Carel humiSteam humidifier. The controller has detected that the outlet humidity or temperature probe — used for supply air limit control or outlet humidity measurement — is not connected or is producing an invalid signal. The humidifier disables the outlet-based limiting function and may halt operation until the probe is restored.

Symptoms

• E223 displayed on the controller, alternating with the normal reading.
• Outlet humidity or temperature reading shows an invalid or dashed value.
• Outlet limit control function suspended — humidifier may run without outlet-based protection.
• Alarm relay may close depending on configuration.

Common causes

• Outlet probe cable disconnected from the controller terminal block.
• Probe signal wire broken between the duct-mounted probe and the controller.
• Outlet probe sensor element failed due to moisture damage, high temperature, or age.
• Parameter A0 set to indicate an outlet probe is present when no probe is actually installed.

   Check all signal and supply wires at the outlet probe input terminal. Confirm the wires are correctly terminated and no conductors are broken or corroded.

   Access the controller parameter menu and verify that parameter A0 matches the probe configuration: if no outlet probe is installed, set A0 accordingly to prevent E223 from triggering.

   Inspect the duct probe for physical damage

   Locate the outlet duct probe and inspect for physical damage, condensation ingress, or deposits. Probes near the humidifier steam outlet are exposed to high moisture that can damage the sensor.

   Measure probe output signal

   With supply voltage confirmed, measure the probe output. An invalid or zero signal under known conditions confirms probe sensor failure and the need for replacement.

   Replace the outlet probe if defective

   Install a compatible replacement probe designed for duct mounting at the appropriate distance from the steam distributor. Verify the reading is valid and stable before restarting humidification.
