What does Carel E414 mean?

E414 on Carel humiFog controllers signals high water discharge pressure detected by the pressure switch on the discharge manifold. When outlet pressure exceeds the pressure switch setpoint, the controller enters Disable mode to prevent manifold damage or nozzle overpressure. Manual reset is required after the root cause is corrected.

Symptoms

• Humidifier output disabled — fog production stops.
• E414 (HP on some displays) shown on the controller.
• Discharge pressure switch is in the tripped (high-pressure) position.
• Manual reset required; alarm relay closes.

Common causes

• Nozzles clogged with mineral deposits, restricting outlet flow and building pressure.
• Discharge manifold blocked or kinked, creating backpressure.
• Pump pressure regulation valve malfunctioning, allowing excessive pressure.
• Number of open manifold sections is insufficient for the system's pump output.
• Ambient temperatures causing water to partially freeze in outdoor nozzle runs.

Diagnostic steps

   Inspect nozzles for blockage

   Shut off the humidifier and inspect all nozzles in the discharge manifold. Remove and clean any blocked nozzles using a nozzle cleaning solution and appropriate cleaning tools per Carel maintenance procedures.

   Check the discharge manifold for obstructions

   Trace the entire discharge pipe and manifold routing for kinks, closed valves, or inadvertent blockages. Ensure the 'always open' manifold rack is installed per Carel installation guidelines.

   Verify pump output pressure

   Use a pressure gauge to measure actual system pressure at the pump outlet. If pressure is above the design setpoint, adjust or replace the pressure regulation valve.

   Verify pressure switch operation

   Confirm the high discharge pressure switch is correctly set and not mechanically stuck in the tripped position. Replace the switch if it does not reset when pressure is normalized.

   After correcting the discharge pressure fault, reset the alarm from the controller. Confirm system pressure is within normal range before restarting production.
