Follett LOW BIN Error Code

Bin switch closed, calling for ice (normal run-enable indicator)

What does Follett LOW BIN mean?

LOW BIN is a green normal-status indicator showing the bin switch is closed and calling for ice. On the Horizon icemaker, the bin-full detection system uses a shuttle and switch at the ice discharge: when the bin fills, the transport tube moves out of position and the switch turns the machine off, extinguishing LOW BIN. When LOW BIN is lit, the machine is allowed to run; when it is off with a full bin, that is normal.

Symptoms

  • Green LOW BIN LED lit when the bin needs ice and the machine may run.
  • LOW BIN off when the bin is full, with refrigeration and auger stopped.
  • Machine in TIME DELAY without a full bin if the shuttle gives a false signal.
  • No ice production when LOW BIN stays off unexpectedly.

Common causes

  • Bin full, correctly moving the shuttle and opening the bin switch (normal).
  • Transport tube improperly installed or routed, causing a false shuttle signal.
  • Shuttle stuck in the up position.
  • Bin switch or shuttle mechanism fault.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Confirm bin state

Check whether the bin is actually full. LOW BIN off with a genuinely full bin is normal; LOW BIN off with an empty bin indicates a shuttle or switch problem.

  2. Check transport tube routing

If the machine is in time delay without a full bin, correct the transport tube routing, since improper installation can create a false shuttle signal per the troubleshooting table.

  3. Inspect the shuttle mechanism

Verify the shuttle flag moves freely; a shuttle stuck in the up position should be repaired or replaced as the troubleshooting guide directs.

  4. Verify bin switch operation

Confirm the bin switch at the ice discharge opens and closes with shuttle movement so the board correctly senses bin level.

When to call a professional

LOW BIN behaving with a full or empty bin is normal sensing. Service is warranted when the shuttle is stuck or the bin switch is suspect and the machine will not run with an empty bin, or stays in time delay without a full bin after the transport tube is corrected. A Follett-authorized technician should repair or replace the shuttle mechanism and bin switch, disconnecting power first as the manual warns about moving parts at the discharge.
