Manitowoc Ice E16
Remote condenser fault — liquid line below 40°F or above 140°F for over 1 minute during freeze
Source: Manitowoc Ice/i0500a__man-indigo-r290-sth038-th.pdf
What does Manitowoc Ice E16 mean?
Code E16 is the remote-condenser fault: during the freeze cycle the liquid-line temperature dropped below 40°F, or exceeded 140°F, for more than one continuous minute.
Symptoms
- E16 on a machine with a remote (roof) condenser
- Seasonal pattern: faults in extreme cold or heat
- Long freezes / weak harvests accompanying the code
Common causes
- Remote condenser fan failure (too hot) or cold-weather over-condensing (too cold)
- Head-pressure control (headmaster) not maintaining pressure
- Blocked or damaged remote condenser or line-set issue
Diagnostic steps
- 01
Inspect the remote condenser
Check the fan, coil cleanliness and any physical damage at the remote unit.
- 02
Evaluate the head-pressure control
In cold weather a headmaster that fails to bypass lets the liquid line run too cold; diagnose per the head-pressure-control chart.
- 03
Trace the season
Match the fault timing against ambient extremes to separate fan failure from cold-ambient control issues.
- 04
Confirm in-range operation
After repair, verify liquid-line temperature stays between the limits through full cycles.

When to call a professional
Refrigeration-circuit work on this machine (gauges, refrigerant recovery, TXV or compressor replacement) requires an EPA-certified refrigeration technician, and Indigo units built on R290 propane additionally require flammable-refrigerant service procedures. If the fault returns after the basic checks here, book a qualified ice-machine technician rather than continuing to reset the unit.

Safety Limit 1 - freeze cycle ran too long (long freeze)
SL#2Safety Limit 2 - harvest cycle ran too long (long harvest)
SL#3Safety Limit 3 - no water sensed during the freeze cycle
E01Long freeze cycle — freeze ran to the 60-minute limit; 6 consecutive trigger the SL#1 shutdown
E02Long harvest cycle — harvest hit the 3.5-minute limit; repeated events log SL#2
E03Input power loss recorded in the event log on power-up (event-log entry only, no alarm)
E04High condenser temperature — liquid line too hot (air- or water-cooled condenser fault)
E05High-pressure control opened — the HPCO safety switch tripped on excess discharge pressure
E07Starving TXV or low on charge — evaporator inlet/outlet (T3/T4) spread over 12°F, 10 consecutive checks
E08TXV fault (dual-circuit/single-evaporator models) — evaporator underfeed signature
E09Evaporator flooding, circuit 1 — early-freeze discharge temperature below the 6-cycle average
E10Evaporator flooding, circuit 2 (dual-TXV) — early-freeze discharge temperature below the 6-cycle average
