Silko Er1 Error Code

Needle (core) probe error on the blast chiller

Source: Silko/Silko_BF030AE-R290_UserManual_CK_ML.pdf

What does Silko Er1 mean?

On Silko blast chillers, Er1 is the needle probe error shown on the EWBC1400 controller display. The controller has detected that the needle (core) probe is not connected properly or has failed, so it cannot read the core temperature of the food. If an automatic program is running, the unit switches to a manual program. The code is not displayed while the controller is in stand-by.

Symptoms

  • "Er1" appears on the controller display, fixed or cycling with the PB1 probe temperature.
  • An automatic blast-chilling program will not run by core temperature and switches to a manual (timed) program.
  • The core temperature reading from the needle probe is missing or implausible.
  • No buzzer sounds when the alarm occurs; the fault is shown on the display only.

Common causes

  • Needle (core) probe not connected properly to the appliance.
  • Faulty needle probe.
  • Damaged probe lead or connector at the controller input.
  • Loose or corroded probe terminal connection.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Check the needle probe connection

Confirm the needle (core) probe is fully and correctly connected to the appliance. Reseat the connector and verify the lead is not pinched or damaged.

  2. Switch to a manual program if needed

If an automatic program was interrupted, start a manual (timed) program so the cycle can continue while you investigate the probe fault.

  3. Inspect the probe and lead

Examine the needle probe tip and cable for visible damage, kinks, or cuts that could break the circuit.

  4. Replace the needle probe

If the connection is sound but Er1 persists, the needle probe is faulty and must be replaced as stated in the manual.

  5. Confirm the alarm clears

After reconnecting or replacing the probe, verify Er1 no longer appears and that the core temperature reads correctly during a cycle.

When to call a professional

Reconnecting the needle probe is a simple operator task, but replacing the probe or diagnosing the controller wiring should be done by a qualified service technician. Disconnect the appliance from the electrical supply before any internal work. If Er1 returns after the probe is reconnected and replaced, contact authorised Silko service to check the controller input and harness.
