Pressure switch alarm on the blast chiller

Source: Silko/Silko_BF030AE-R290_UserManual_CK_ML.pdf

What does Silko PrS mean?

PrS is the pressure switch alarm on Silko blast chillers with the EWBC1400 controller. It is triggered when the DI2 pressure switch input opens (with parameter P27 different from 0). This input is normally closed, so an open switch signals a refrigeration pressure fault. The controller deactivates loads and the pressure switch alarm has priority over the open-door alarm. At power-on, PrS is signalled if DI2 is open.

Symptoms

  • "PrS" shown flashing or fixed on the display depending on the alarm event count versus parameter P27.
  • Compressor and other loads (cell fan, condenser/auxiliary fans) are deactivated.
  • The unit will not chill while the pressure switch input remains open.
  • PrS is reported immediately at switch-on if the DI2 input is open.

Common causes

  • DI2 pressure switch open due to a refrigeration high/low pressure condition.
  • Dirty or blocked condenser raising head pressure and tripping the switch.
  • Insufficient condenser airflow or fan failure.
  • Wiring fault or failed pressure switch on the normally-closed DI2 input.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Close the pressure switch and wait safety times

Once the pressure condition clears, the DI2 pressure switch closes; wait for the compressor safety times (parameters P9 and P10) before the unit restarts. Press the SET key where the manual requires to reset the load-locking state.

  2. Inspect and clean the condenser

Check the condenser coil is clean and unobstructed and that condenser fans run, since high head pressure is a common cause of a pressure trip.

  3. Verify ventilation around the unit

Ensure adequate clearance and airflow around the technical compartment so the refrigeration system can reject heat properly.

  4. Check the pressure switch and wiring

Have the DI2 pressure switch and its normally-closed wiring tested; a faulty switch or broken wire reports as an open input.

  5. Confirm normal restart

After the cause is corrected and safety times elapse, verify PrS clears and the loads re-energise correctly.

When to call a professional

A pressure switch alarm indicates a refrigeration-circuit fault and should be diagnosed by a qualified refrigeration technician. Cleaning the condenser and ensuring ventilation are acceptable operator checks, but pressure faults, sealed-system work, and switch or wiring replacement require trained service. Disconnect power before any internal work and call authorised Silko service if PrS recurs.
