Condenser probe error on the blast chiller

Source: Silko/Silko_BF030AE-R290_UserManual_CK_ML.pdf

What does Silko Er3 mean?

Er3 is the condenser probe error on Silko blast chillers using the EWBC1400 controller. The controller has detected that the condenser probe is not connected properly or has failed, so it can no longer monitor condenser temperature for fan control and condenser protection. The fault is shown on the display only, with no buzzer.

Symptoms

  • "Er3" appears on the controller display, sometimes cycling with the PB1 probe temperature.
  • Condenser temperature is not monitored or shows an implausible value.
  • Condenser fan control may not respond correctly to condenser temperature.
  • No audible alarm accompanies the fault.

Common causes

  • Condenser probe not connected properly to the appliance.
  • Condenser probe failure.
  • Damaged probe cable or connector.
  • Loose terminal connection at the controller.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Check the condenser probe connection

Confirm the condenser probe is correctly connected to the appliance and reseat its connector at the controller.

  2. Inspect the probe and lead

Examine the condenser probe and cable for damage, especially near the hot condenser area where insulation can degrade.

  3. Replace the condenser probe

If the connection is sound but Er3 persists, replace the condenser probe as directed by the manual.

  4. Keep the condenser clean

While accessing the area, check the condenser is clean and unobstructed so temperature readings reflect true operating conditions.

  5. Confirm the alarm clears

After repair, verify Er3 no longer appears and condenser-driven fan control behaves normally.

When to call a professional

The condenser probe sits in the refrigeration compartment near live components and hot surfaces. Reconnecting an obvious loose plug is acceptable for an operator, but probe replacement and any work inside the technical compartment should be performed by a qualified refrigeration technician with the appliance disconnected from power.
