Coreco E1 Error Code

Evaporator / defrost probe (probe 2) error — signal interrupted, short-circuited or incompatible probe

Source: Coreco_easy_compact_eng_termostatos.pdf

What does Coreco E1 mean?

On the Coreco controller (Carel easy / easy compact), E1 is an evaporator-probe (also called the food-conservation or defrost probe, probe 2) fault. With this probe unreadable, temperature-controlled defrost and fan control that rely on the evaporator reading cannot work normally. E1 flashes on the display alternating with the temperature, the buzzer sounds and the alarm resets automatically when the probe reads correctly.

Symptoms

  • Display shows E1 flashing alternating with the temperature
  • Buzzer sounds when the alarm is enabled
  • Temperature-controlled defrost no longer ends on the evaporator reading
  • Evaporator-fan control that depends on probe 2 behaves abnormally
  • Defrost falls back to a timed cycle instead of temperature control

Common causes

  • Evaporator/defrost probe signal interrupted (open circuit / broken wire)
  • Evaporator/defrost probe short-circuited
  • Probe not compatible with the instrument
  • Loose or corroded probe 2 terminal connection
  • Faulty evaporator probe element

Diagnostic steps

  1. Identify the affected probe

E1 reports the evaporator (defrost / food-conservation) probe, probe 2. Confirm which physical probe maps to input 2 on this model before testing.

  2. Mute the buzzer

Press SET to silence the buzzer; the E1 code and relay clear only when the probe fault itself is resolved.

  3. Check the probe signal and connector

With power isolated, inspect probe 2's lead and terminal for an interrupted or short-circuited signal, and reseat any loose or corroded connection.

  4. Confirm probe type

Verify the fitted evaporator probe is compatible with the instrument; an incompatible probe also triggers E1.

  5. Replace the probe if needed

If wiring is sound and the probe is correct but the fault persists, replace probe 2. While E1 is present, expect defrost to run on a timed cycle until the probe is restored.

When to call a professional

Repairs to the electrical parts of the cabinet are reserved for qualified personnel. If inspecting and reseating probe 2 does not clear E1, or the probe needs replacing and the defrost/fan logic re-verified, call a qualified refrigeration technician so the evaporator probe and temperature-controlled defrost are returned to correct operation.
